A milestone in my life…

An era hs passed in my life. I have finished school. Yesterday I handed in the application for my Masters degree, which they will mail to me when it is ready. The official date of my graduation from the University of Helsinki / Department of computer science (Where, btw, Linus Torvalds also went) will be 31.07.2008. But all is done and finished.

If you want to read my thesis, you can find it here:
Christoffer Björkskog: “Visualizing social network activity on mobile browsers.” June 2008.

I am currently working for HIIT (Helsinki Institute for Information Technology) as a research assistant for the UIx (Ubiquitous Interaction) research group. We will have our third child in the end of August/beginning of September. We will move to Skutnabba/Pedersöre in the end of July, from where i will work remotely for HIIT at least until end of September

Static electricity

(I thought about naming this post ‘Electricity in bed’)
I had a fever yesterday, and had an extra blanket on me when i slept to “help the fever” without draining my body of energy. Anyway, during the night, i was of course hot, I went up and had a glass of water. Then i decided that i did not need the extra blanket anymore, so i removed it.
When i removed the blanket there were sparks of static electricity and because it wast pitch black in the middle of the night they were really visible.
Big spots, from 5 to 10 cm^2, shone yellow on the surface of the felt blanket.
It made the same sound that you sometimes hear when you remove a woollen jumper.

God is incredible

Why don’t you read some of these testimonies

I can only imagine

I can only imagine
What it will be like
When I walk
By your side

I can only imagine
What my eyes will see
When your face
Is before me
I can only imagine

Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in your presence or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine

I can only imagine
When that day comes
And I find myself
Standing in the Son

I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever
Forever worship You
I can only imagine

Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in your presence or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine

I can only imagine
I can only imagine

I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever, forever worship you

Yawn!

Goodmorning.
I is 06.55 on a Sunday morning.
I went to sleep 02.00 yesterday after having programmed on my C++ assignment. The program started to behave more in the way I would want it too now. I got to start implementing keyboard input and how the program reacts then.
Today I will go visiting my brother. It will be fun.
Cheers.

The empty guitar case

guitar case empty
This is a guitar case.
It is empty.

A lot of people feel that something is missing in their life. Like there was an emptiness in their life, that something relevant was missing. This is the reason why so many people seek satisfaction in different forms like money, power, gratification, sexual satisfaction etc.

God created man to be in relationship with Him. Because of the fall of man, this relationship was broken and it left a void, an emptiness in the heart of man. This void can only be filled by God.

If we look at the empty guitar case, it resembles the state of man. There is no guitar in it. The relationship with God is broken because of sin (sin, not sins … sin is the disease, sins are the symptoms). No matter what we try to fill the guitar case with, even if they seem good, they can never replace, or fit as well as the guitar. The guitar case was designed for the guitar. We are meant to have a living relationship with God. Only he can fill the emptyness inside of us.

Case filled with rubbish
But if we have filled the case wit lot’s of rubbish (all kinds of stuff), it will be hard to get a guitar to fit there, even if it was the one that it was customly designed for. We have to take away the rubbish in order to place the guitar there.

Jesus died on the cross to re-establish our relationship with God. He took our sin, he took our rubbish. Sin and death held us hostage. Jesus paid our ransom. It cost Him his life.

If we have lots of stuff in our life that are “our gods”, it will be harder for us to embrace Jesus.

But if we embrace Jesus, He cleanses us from or sin and He puts us in the right relationship as children with God and He gives us his Holy Spirit.

I require 2,4 times too much space

Hi my name is Christoffer. My living requires 4,3 global hectares. If everyone lived like me, we would need 2,4 planets. Worldwide, there exists 1.8 biologically productive global hectares per person. The average ecological footprint here in Finland is 8.4 Global hectares per person. If everyone lived like the mean finn we would need 4,6 planets to support it.

2,4 planets
– These many planets were required if everyone lived like me –
4,6 planets
– These many planets were required if everyone lived like the average finn –
one planet
– This is how many planets we have –

At http://www.myfootprint.org you can calculate your ecological footprint.

The things you can do to reduce your fotprint is for example:
– Buy locally. (No need for packed, imported, transported stuff)
– Use your bike, or at least collective transportation
– Like it or not, eat less meat.
– Turn off lights, use low-energy light bulbs.
– Less standby on your electrical gear
– .. pretty much stop using so much energy.
